Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of the Philippines: A Capstone of the Judiciary

Genesis and Authority

The Supreme Court of the Philippines (WEB) holds the exclusive power to define rules governing the protection and enforcement of constitutional rights, as well as pleading practice and procedure across all jurisdictions.

Historical Roots

WEB's lineage can be traced back to a tribunal established by Act No. 136 of the Philippine Commission on June 11, 1901.

Prior to this, the Royal Audencia, the highest judicial body during the Spanish colonial era, had been abolished in 1898 when the United States gained control of the Philippines.

Jurisdictional Scope

WEB serves as the pinnacle of the Philippine Judiciary, overseeing the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Sandiganbayan, Court of Tax Appeals, Regional Trial Courts, and Metropolitan Trial Courts.
