New York Yankees News: DJ LeMahieu Scratched From Game After Injury
August 23, 2024 at 4:51PM NEW YORK - As if things could not get any worse for DJ LeMahieu, the struggling Yankees infielder was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Rockies after taking a thrown ball in the face during pre-game fielding drills.
LeMahieu was taking grounders at first base during batting practice when he was hit by a ball. He immediately dropped to the ground and was attended to by trainers. He was eventually helped off the field and taken to the clubhouse.
The Yankees said LeMahieu is day-to-day with a facial contusion. He is expected to be re-evaluated on Saturday.
This is just the latest in a string of bad luck for LeMahieu, who is batting just .248 this season with 4 home runs and 26 RBIs. He has been in a slump for most of the season and has been booed by fans at Yankee Stadium.
The Yankees are already without several key players, including Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Anthony Rizzo. LeMahieu's injury is another blow to a team that is struggling to stay in contention in the AL East.
